작가 이고운의 회화는 현실의 풍경의 재현보다 감각의 결을 통해 세계를 사유하는 방식으로 전개되어 왔다. 작가는 일상 속에서 포착한 빛과 색, 공기의 흐름을 화면 위에 번역해 종종 가시적 이미지 너머의 정서적 구조를 탐색한다. 이번 전시 〈울리는 가을〉은 ‘계절의 진동’이자 ‘감정의 울림’을 주제로, 시간과 감정이 교차하는 지점을 회화적으로 드러낸다.

그녀의 화면 속 풍경은 구체적 장면보다 공기와 빛이 스며드는 정서적 공간에 가깝다. 그렇기에 나무, 열매, 하늘과 별빛은 실재하는 그것들과는 가깝고도 먼, 감각의 잔향을 시각화한 결과이며, 작가는 이를 통해 사라짐과 남음, 온기와 냉기의 경계에 놓인 계절의 감정을 포착한다.

이고운의 색은 시간의 흔적을 기록하는 언어다. 겹겹이 쌓인 색면은 단순한 채색이 아니라, 빛이 머무는 방향과 공기의 온도를 재구성하는 과정이 된다. 황혼의 잔광, 단풍이 스러지는 속도, 수면 위의 푸른 떨림들은 서로 다른 시간의 결을 이루며 하나의 리듬으로 통합된다. 이때 회화는 감각의 지속과 정서의 순환을 드러내는 구조로 기능한다.

이번 전시의 중심에 놓인 두 작품 〈당신의 작은 정원〉과 〈열매 II〉는 이러한 감각의 확장을 가장 선명하게 보여준다. 〈당신의 작은 정원〉은 내면의 정원을 응시하듯 잊힌 관계와 감정의 여백을 가을의 빛으로 풀어내고, 〈열매 II〉는 무르익은 생명의 형상을 통해 시간의 순환과 성숙의 과정을 은유한다. 두 작품은 작가가 지속해온 몽상의 정원을 토대로, 현실의 감각과 계절의 정서를 병치시키며 회화적 서정의 폭을 확장한다.

〈울리는 가을〉은 단순히 울려 퍼지는 계절의 공명만을 뜻하지 않는다. 그것은 빛이 남긴 진동이자, 사라지는 것을 향한 마음의 울음이기도 하다. 작가는 그 두 층위의 울림—감정의 파동과 내면의 떨림—이 교차하는 지점을 짐짓 담담하게, 그러나 결코 담담하지 않은 태도로 화면에 기록한다. 이번 전시는 작가의 회화를 감각과 정서가 서로를 울리는 공명(共鳴)의 장이자, 조용히 울고 있는 세계를 바라보는 사유의 장으로 제시하고자 한다.

Gowoony Lee’s paintings have evolved as a way of contemplating the world not through the reproduction of visible landscapes but through the subtle textures of sensation. She translates the light, color, and air she encounters in daily life onto the canvas, often seeking the emotional structures that lie beyond the visible image. Her latest exhibition, Resonant Autumn, presents this exploration as both the vibration of a season and the resonance of emotion—a point where time and feeling intersect within the language of painting.

The landscapes in her work are less concrete scenes than emotional spaces where light and air permeate quietly. Trees, fruits, skies, and starlight are rendered not as direct depictions of reality but as visualizations of sensory afterimages. Through them, the artist captures the fragile balance between presence and disappearance, warmth and coolness—the emotional thresholds of a passing season.

Color, for Lee, functions as a language of time. Each layer of pigment is not simply applied but reconstituted as a trace of light’s direction and the temperature of air. The fading glow of twilight, the slow descent of autumn leaves, and the subtle trembling of reflected blue water converge into a single rhythm. In this way, her painting becomes a structure that reveals the continuity of sensation and the circulation of emotion.

Two key works in this exhibition—Your Little Garden and Fruit II—make this expanded sensibility particularly clear. Your Little Garden contemplates an inner garden, transforming the quiet space of forgotten relationships into the gentle light of autumn. Fruit II embodies the ripening of life itself, evoking both maturity and the cyclical passage of time. Together, these works build upon Lee’s long-standing theme of the dreamlike garden, juxtaposing the sensory reality of the present with the lyrical sentiment of the season.

Resonant Autumn does not speak merely of a season that echoes outward. It is also the faint vibration left by light, and the silent cry directed toward what is passing away. Lee records, with a composure that is deliberate yet never indifferent, the intersection of these two resonances—the outward pulse of emotion and the inward tremor of the self. This exhibition repositions her painting as a site of mutual resonance between sense and sentiment, and as a quiet meditation on a world that, in its stillness, is already softly crying.
